Myrmidon’s House Destroyed

Posted on 29 November 2009 by Landor - NNN Editor

OLD, CIR, and OL recently put out a press release stating that they have destroyed Myrmidon’s house in retaliation for Myrmidon’s “grieving” of them and others. Vaylgar, the thread’s creator had this to say in the original post.

Here is a video of the Myrmidon guild stone and house going bye bye from people they grieved in game taking some justice into their own hands.

The increase in recent reports of the organized destruction of guild and player housing, points to an increase in organized warfare in Nave. Where once there were simply roving bands of killers who were simply out to murder, there appears to be an increase of sides beginning to be taken and lines drawn.  Overlords (OL) and Myrmidons, according to dicussion in the thread, had a low level NAP (nonaggression pact) with each other sometime prior to the destruction of the house. It can safely be assumed that, that is now not the case. Chavoda of Overlords mentioned this in regards to the relationship the two clans had during their neutrality pact, which is now void.

One may say that we were neutral at most due to the efforts of Silver.

We dint like some of myrm members even when we were neutral , mainly for there personal taste of communication. and there behavior ingame.
But being neutral does mean you at least act friendly toward people of said guild.

The plainly rude and insulting behavior just before OL and Myrms got into our current war status on the side of myrm only serves as a reminder that some people in this game never will be able to see the diference between friends and enemy’s as there ego is to high and there brains to small.

Myrmidon had many  replies located in the thread in response the destruction of their house. Most of which centered around the facts that the attackers chose to attack their “defenseless” house instead of Myrmidon members and that even though their house is gone, it didn’t affect the guild at all as they never used the house anyways. Angarotu and Javelin of Myrmidon had this to say in the thread, respectively.

lol i like how the noob guilds banded together too kill the evil reds but since you failed at that you go after a poor defenseless house XD

and you couldnt even do it without exploits and speedhacks?
also the reason we didnt come to defend it is cause 1st off we didnt know 2nd we were out killing PEOPLE that fight back. we could give a fuck about the house i havent even been to it for a week. the only reason we build it is to check out the guild feature which still works so you managed to do… absolutly nothing since you cant even loot the house

grats on your great achievements :P

ROFL, k so you destroyed our house cause you can’t beat us in pvp? got it, good job? Then you made a video about it… cause if you didn’t suck in pvp you could of made one of killing us instead?

Pretty epic achievement imo really, wonder how many hours you guys were standing there swinging at an inanimate object wasting your lives away while we’re out having fun actually fighting people…

lol.

But yes excellent job, we are defeated!!! The innocents have been saved!!! You removed the one location we sometimes hang around thus removing any chance of ever finding us when you get around to growing some balls to fight us directly.

What oh what will a roving band of murderers do without a house?… I wonder :O.

hahaha, your post made me laugh, someone with rep + him for me would ya.

Myrmidon lost some items in the destruction, some armor and weapons that were stashed as backups and some ore and wood that were stored for an eventual upgrade of the house, none of which was important according to Neoxx of Myrmidon. He also went on to say that they have no plans at this time to rebuild the Myrmidon house as the guild chat function was woefully underused due to their use of ventrilo and that the storage benefits were hardly noticeable. When asked what overall response they have as a guild to the press release, he said this.

The only real response they deserve is to their several instances of referring to us as “grievers”. If they are such a powerful force, why are we causing them so much grief?

Some other responders to the press release have likened the destruction of Myrmidon’s house as a war declaration by ODL, OL and CIR on Myrmidon. The Nave world can and will likely see an escalation of hostilities between the mentioned clans, but if that is to be all out war, time will only tell. With this and other unknown quantity in mind, we at NNN decided to delve further into what happened to light the fire under CIR, ODL and OL to do this and what future lies ahead for all involved, including Myrmidons. Neoxx of Mymidons and Valygar the press release’s announcer were both sent PMs on the forum boards. Neoxx has been the only one to reply as of yet.  Neoxx, when asked what they believe set off the attack and if Myrmidon plans to now declare war on their attackers, he had this to say.

We [see] this as a very cowardly act on their part. It appears to be a direct response to our actions against an OL member trying to enter my house a few days earlier, and his subsequent death. We have proven ourselves in battle, and this was their only way to portray any ‘victory’ over us.

There is not any formal declaration of war from Myrmidon, as we’re not politically motivated, its simply monetary. Actively seeking out a single group of people in this vast world would be too time consuming for an unworthy opponent. We won’t hesitate at any chance to kill them when we come across them.

Operation: Crispy Sausage

Posted on 24 November 2009 by NNN Admin

A couple of weeks ago, November 13th specifically, Trystram of Variance released a thread detailing the “glorious world first victory” of the destruction of some homes. They called it “Operation Crispy Sausage” as it took place near Sausage Lake.

The guilds of Variance, RPB, Mahtisoturit were all involved in the operation that occurred near the shores of Sausage Lake. Two homes were destroyed in the raid and reduced to ruins. The deed was carried out soon after the housing patch was released and was done solely with starter axes.

The two houses fell easily too our naked bodies and mighty starter axes.

Trystram posted pictures of the operation in the act and the resulting destruction. This writer does note though, that the pictures detail an earlier version of the housing system. The house models and ruins in the pictures that are posted, are no longer in use at this time. The posted pictures range from people actively hitting the houses to the resulting destruction and shots of the ruins.

As expected by everyone I think, the posts following Trystram’s original vary from support, to condemnation, to whining; as is the nature of MMOs. Some condemned it due to the fact that this is beta, giving the reason that for testing purposes these players should have been allowed to finish their homes. This front was led initially by forum poster, Zizzy.

I never raged over internet but this is a perfect time to start.

WHY THE *CENSURE* ARE YOU *CENSURE* *CENSURE* DOING THAT?! IT’S NOT JUST A TOWN, IT’S FOR THE GOOD OF THE GAME YOU’RE GOING TO PLAY.

We have to build a crowded city so that we can see how can a server handle that, and improve the game. You’re just destroying it for everyone.

I HOPE YOU’LL SIT ACCIDENTALLY SIT ON YOUR BALLS SOMEDAY. GOOD DAY SIR.

Other posters, gave their support for the operation. Such as Khyaine, the lead Community Moderator.

Except that the entire mechanic needs to be tested. It’s all part of a full loot, full pvp game.

We couldn’t have achieved the same result if people built close together – didn’t build half finished homes – worked as a team to achieve their objective.

If you place your foundation down in the middle of no where to reserve your spot and to be the quickest in getting a house built, you will, without any doubt whatsoever, find your nemisis, your opposite, looking for that house to destroy.

Five naked guys with zero skills and newbie axes brought down two houses within about half an hour. That’s some really important testing right there if you ask me.

I’m sincerely surprised to see the complaning. It’s all part of this game. This is what you’ve signed up for.

To see more about this thread, please check it out in the Mortal Online Political Forums. Within the thread you can find the pictues posted by Trystram and other various participants of the operation. In addition you will find quite a few more opinions and accounts of what happened that night. If you have any comments about this article, please leave a post below!

NDA lifted

Posted on 23 November 2009 by Landor - NNN Editor

Lifting the NDA

The last months have been a real rollercoaster ride here at Star Vault, albeit a very positive one. Most of the core features planned for release have been introduced and tested in a controlled manner, and we’ve been extremely eager to see the reception each time. We are now at a point where we feel that although there is still a lot of work to do, it’s time to increase our efforts of marketing the game, and part of this process is the lifting of the NDA.

Mortal Online isn’t easy to market in a very straightforward way. The rules surrounding the game and its design are complex in their nature and sometimes very hard to explain to players with no or little previous experience of concepts such as “full-PvP”, “full-loot”, “sandbox” etc. Therefore we need the help of you, our faithful player-base, to help spread the word and reach places we can’t due to lack of resources and time. The NDA is now lifted so that you can start sharing videos, screenshots, go public with your personal sites full of information (we know they exist ;) ), and of course, be able to freely talk about and discuss the game on our own forums as well as all over the web. This phase will end with an open, free-to-play Beta where we hope that as many players as possible will find and decide for Mortal Online.

We have aimed for Q4 and the last features we promised for launch will be there before the end of the year. Mortal Online is a niche game and we feel certain that these features will make for a great start while we continue the development. However, we would be lying if we didn’t admit we want more before official release. More polish, more tweaking, and of course, be able to walk those couple of extra miles that do make a huge difference, especially in an open-ended game where every new option is multiplied and multiplied again.

With this in mind we are approaching release, but the release date is not written in stone. Cynically speaking, the more people interested in and buying the game, the more time we will be able to invest in tweaking, polishing and even add more features before launching it. In turn, each day working on the game before release will mean more players stay thereafter. This will make the launch more stable, and a good economy base would enable us to progress the game even faster.

We hope you have enjoyed the Beta so far, thank you for your support and dedication. Now go out there and spread the word!

Regards,
the MO Dev Team

Nave News Network Released

Posted on 31 October 2009 by NNN Admin

Finally after weeks of work, The Nave News Network is being released to the Mortal Online Community. It is our intention to make this website and newspaper the most in-depth and unbiased source of player originated MO news on the web. While other news websites focus and adhere to game developer news and game information, we intend to delve deep into the community of the game. We want those stories that really shape a sandbox game, the stories of intrigue, betrayal and triumph. These are our focus.

The staff of NNN have was always been inspired by the great stories that come out of sandbox games. Stories such as these can rival anything that happens in the real-world. My biggest inspiration in this regard is EVE Online. EVE Online is currently the ultimate sandbox MMO in my opinion, and what has come out of that game over the years is truly awesome. To facilitate coverage of these alliance, corporation, and pilot news topics, CCP, the developers of EVE, initiated something known as The Interstellar Correspondents. It is The IC, that NNN hopes to live up to the standards of.

A global (in the case of IC, galactic) news reporting organization. Finding those stories scattered across Nave that matter to the guilds and players of The Mortal Online World. Breaking news: alliance reporting, war declarations and coverage, economic take-overs, event news and coverage, shifts in power and etc. In-game event and situation analysis from community experts. Various opinion pieces from prominent Nave denizens. The news that matters the most to the players, to the players with an invested interest in the happenings of their fellow Nave denizens, that is what we bring to the masses.

We don’t care about the best build or what kind of ores there are. We care about who you killed yesterday and how it is going to affect tomorrow.
